Chimes Cuts the Ribbon on Renovated Residential Home for People with Disabilities in Baltimore County
Transformational Renovations Made Possible by Generous Grant from Baltimore County Government
Baltimore, Maryland – July 30, 2024 – Chimes, one of the region’s leading providers of support and services for people with disabilities, is proud to announce the re-opening of a community living home in Baltimore County. Following extensive renovations and improvements, the home is now better equipped to provide top-quality community living opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
A generous grant from Baltimore County Government is supporting the recent enhancements at this and another home to ensure they remain high-quality, accessible, and comfortable to meet the unique needs of its residents.
“Baltimore County was pleased to provide funding that helped implement critical rehabilitation work at the community living home in Pikesville,” said Terry Hickey, director of the Baltimore County Department of Housing and Community Development. “We applaud Chimes’ dedication to providing outstanding resources and services to people with disabilities. The revitalized community home in Pikesville is a wonderful achievement.”
Chimes celebrated the re-opening of the home with a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 25 that featured Jay Doyle with Baltimore County Department of Housing and Community Development, Maryland State Senator Shelly L. Hettleman, Chimes leadership and staff, and residents of the home.
“Partnerships between nonprofit organizations and government to address the array of our citizens’ needs are essential,” said Senator Shelly Hettleman. “This wonderful renovation is such an example that demonstrates the public sector and Chimes’ investments in our community to provide critical services so desperately needed.”
Built in 1962, the home has been a cornerstone of support and care for people with disabilities in the community for decades. The renovated home now boasts a range of advanced features designed to enhance accessibility and safety.
- Ceiling tracks facilitate safe and effortless movement within the home, particularly benefiting those with limited mobility.
- Accessible fold-up shower beds provide stability, safety, and comfort for residents.
- Wide doorways and hallways allow for easy maneuverability, especially for wheelchair users.
- The open floor plan and universal design promote seamless convenience and accessibility throughout the home.
- Ramps in the bathrooms offer smooth transitions for users of mobility aids, ensuring every aspect of the home is accommodating and user-friendly.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Baltimore County for funding this grant, ensuring the enduring presence of this home as an active and integral part of this community,” said Steve DaRe, Chief Executive Officer of Chimes. “This remarkable space offers residents a welcoming and comfortable environment. Every improvement reflects our organization’s spirit of compassion and inclusion. We are grateful to Baltimore County for their continued partnership.”
Chimes remains dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities, and this newly renovated home stands as a symbol of this commitment.
