Chimes Delaware Dedicates Community Garden

Community-integration and innovative partnerships inspired Chimes Delaware’s new gardening program at our Millsboro location. Chimes hosted a special dedication ceremony on Monday, August 11 to celebrate this exciting initiative.

The Millsboro community garden is truly a collaborative effort designed to promote inclusion, wellness, and community engagement for adults supported by Chimes with intellectual, autism, and co-occurring disabilities.

Located at the Irv & Phyllis Levin Employment Center, the new program supporting

the multi-pod, raised bed community garden is the result of a multi-organization partnership. Leadership from Chimes Delaware, the United Way of Delaware, the Food Bank of Delaware, the University of Delaware 4-H Program, and the Delaware Department of Agriculture were all on hand to dedicate the new garden and work with program participants to check out the early growth of numerous vegetable plants.

The project combines practical support and shared expertise to create a space where Chimes program participants can engage in meaningful, hands-on activities that promote health, independence, and community connection. All produce harvested from the garden will be distributed by the Food Bank of Delaware to families facing food insecurities in the southern part of the state.
