Chimes Junior Writer
The Development and Communications department was contacted by a student, Kennedy Greene wanting to work on her interviewing and writing skills. She was given several topics and decided to highlight Chimes Cafe's own, Xavier.
I recently had the opportunity to interview a current Supported Employment participant and proud employee of the Chimes Café, Xavier. Xavier took some time to tell us about the full café experience through his eyes. When he found out he was going to be working at the Chimes Café, he was very excited. He wanted to learn to cook and was excited to have the chance. He was trained at the Chimes café and now knows how to make many things he didn’t know how to make before.
Now that he has been working there for over a year, he has expanded his skills in the kitchen. He currently makes the salads and works the grill and fryer. In fact, he even said that his greatest achievement and the thing he enjoys making the most in the kitchen was salad! In five years, he sees himself working at a restaurant outside of Chimes as a cook, just like his father, who used to work on a ship. Xavier said that he wants to continue to cook delicious food just like him.
When asked about the difficulty of his job, Xavier said that although sometimes his job can be tough, “I can still handle myself.” One of the things he likes the most about Chimes is the fact that he gets to meet a lot of new people and the fact that he is always learning new things. When he is not working, he spends his free time playing video games. While he enjoys all kinds of video games, the ones he has been playing the most lately are Destiny and Halo. He is particularly a fan of Japanese games and online games. Over all, Xavier likes his job at the café and hopefully continues to make even more delicious food. Yum!
